History
The parish was established in 1688. The foundation stone of the present church was laid in 1815 and it was consecrated in 1878. The church became a Collegiate in 1900 and received the title of Basilica in 1967.
What to look for
Inside is the much-loved statue of the young Virgin Mary, brought from Marseille in 1878. The church is also known as Il-Vittorja because its feast on 8 September coincides with the traditional commemoration of the Great Siege victory.
