The basilica stands in open countryside near Għarb in western Gozo. It is easily recognised by its tall Romanesque bell tower and isolated position among the fields.

History
The site has medieval origins and was restored under Pinu Gauci. In 1883 Karmni Grima reported hearing the voice of Our Lady at the chapel, after which devotion to the site grew rapidly. The present Romanesque church was built in the twentieth century and became a Minor Basilica in 1935.
What to look for
The basilica is particularly striking for its tall campanile, Romanesque design and finely carved Maltese limestone. The original chapel remains incorporated into the building.
Visiting the church
Ta' Pinu has welcomed papal visitors, including Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis. Opposite the basilica, Ta' Għammar Hill has fourteen marble Stations of the Cross.
As with all active places of worship, visitors should dress respectfully and avoid disturbing services, prayer or local celebrations. Opening arrangements can vary, so check locally if you need guaranteed access.
