Sanap Cliffs Viewpoint
The Sanap Cliffs form one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline on Gozo. The cliffs stand high above the Mediterranean and provide extensive views across the southern and western coastline.
The area is particularly attractive in the late afternoon and evening, when the setting sun illuminates the cliffs and the open sea. Sanap is also part of the coastal walking landscape between the Sannat area and Xlendi.
Come for the dramatic limestone cliffs, open Mediterranean views, peaceful countryside and one of Gozo's memorable sunset locations.
The cliffs
The cliffs at Sanap form part of the spectacular southern coastal landscape of Gozo. The high limestone plateau drops dramatically towards the sea, creating long views along the coast and out towards the horizon.
The surrounding landscape is largely open countryside and garigue, giving the viewpoint a much more natural character than many of the island's more developed viewpoints.
Views towards Xlendi
From the Sanap area there are impressive views along the coast towards Xlendi and the surrounding cliffs. The changing light during the day makes the coastline particularly photogenic.
Sanap at sunset
Sanap Cliffs are especially popular around sunset. The exposed position gives an uninterrupted view towards the western horizon, while the cliffs and surrounding landscape take on warmer colours as the sun goes down.
Walking at Sanap
Sanap is also part of the wider coastal walking landscape around southern Gozo. Paths connect the countryside around Sannat and Munxar with the coastal cliffs and continue towards the Xlendi area.
Visitors should remain on established paths and take care near the cliff edge, particularly in windy conditions.
