Getting around Gozo
Take the island at your pace.
Gozo is compact, but the best way to explore it depends on where you are going. Use buses for the main routes, drive for flexibility, or slow down and explore the villages, coast and countryside on foot or by bicycle.
Ways to explore.
There is no single best way to see Gozo. Your choice depends on how much ground you want to cover and how much time you have.
Car
A car gives you the greatest freedom to move between beaches, villages, viewpoints and the more remote corners of the island.
Bus
Public buses connect Victoria with towns, villages and many of the main visitor areas. Check the current route and timetable before setting out.
Taxi
Taxis are useful for direct journeys, airport connections and places where a bus would involve a long wait or change.
Bike & e-bike
Cycling can be a rewarding way to experience Gozo's lanes and countryside. The island is hilly in places, so an e-bike can make longer routes easier.
Walking
Some of Gozo's best experiences are reached slowly: coastal paths, valleys, village streets and viewpoints all reward walking.
Tours
Organised excursions, sightseeing buses, tuk-tuks and other guided options can cover a lot in a short visit without having to drive.
A few things to know.
Gozo is easy to explore by car, but the island's roads can change character quickly.
Drive on the left
Malta and Gozo drive on the left-hand side of the road.
Allow extra time
Village roads, junctions and slower traffic can make journeys take longer than the distance suggests.
Parking
Popular places can become busy during the day. Arriving earlier can make parking much easier.
Small roads
Some rural and coastal roads are narrow. Take care, particularly when meeting another vehicle.
