Walking information
Ta’ Ċenċ is an open, exposed landscape rather than a managed park. There is little shade and some paths are uneven. Keep well back from the cliff edge, particularly in strong winds, and stay on established routes around agricultural land and archaeological features.
The Ta’ Ċenċ plateau
Ta’ Ċenċ is a broad limestone plateau above the southern coast. Open garrigue and agricultural land are crossed by paths and country tracks leading towards the cliffs.
The cliffs
At the southern edge the plateau falls away into high limestone cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean. The exposed position provides broad coastal views, but the cliff edge is largely open.
Dolmens and prehistoric remains
The plateau contains prehistoric features including dolmens and ancient remains. Ta’ Ċenċ is also known for extensive systems of mysterious cart ruts.
Cart ruts
The cart ruts are parallel grooves cut into the limestone. They occur in several areas of the plateau, so walkers should avoid damaging the rock or disturbing archaeological remains.
Towards Sanap and Xlendi
Ta’ Ċenċ connects naturally with the Sanap and Xlendi walking landscape. Longer coastal routes are more exposed and require suitable footwear and careful navigation.
